Lokal Eatery & Bar: This trendy restaurant opened in October after Taphaus suddenly closed. Here, chefs use local ingredients to create worldwide flavors. The menu has everything from an oyster bar to truffle mac and cheese to Atlantic wild cod served with polenta mousse. And we haven’t even mentioned the amazing view. This is a must-visit for 2020 if you haven’t found your way there already.

Domodomo: The popular New York City sushi bar has opened up a new site in Jersey City. Check out what all the talk was about while staying close to home. Their signature tasting course, Domokase, is a must for any fan of sushi and Asian delicacies. Other Asian-inspired dishes like garlic bacon fried rice and Korean fried chicken will tempt you if sushi isn’t your cup of tea.

The Ashford: Looking for atmosphere? Then this is the restaurant to visit in 2020. The decor screams 1920’s speakeasy and the food is amazing. It’s a New American menu with tasty dishes like kale salmon salad and Broccoli General Tso’s. It’s also a great place to catch your breath and grab a drink. Along with the cool decor comes a creative cocktail menu and long list of intriguing appetizers.

Bring Your Own Beverage

Jersey City has become a great destination for BYOB restaurants. Here’s a few of the most popular BYOB eateries that opened in 2019. Let the experts at Jersey Wine & Spirits recommend a bottle, then head over to one of these Jersey City restaurants.

Bread and Salt: If you haven’t eaten at Bread and Salt yet, just stop what you’re doing and go. This new Jersey City pizzeria has been all the buzz since famous baker and pizza-maker Rick Easton opened its doors in June of 2019. Don’t expect to find a menu online: selections change daily. It’s definitely an experience that will delight your senses.

Green Pear Heights: This BYOB that opened last June is a sister restaurant to Green Pear Cafe in Hoboken. The menu is mostly European but includes dishes like crab cakes served with potatoes. Green Pear Heights has the feel of a quiet neighborhood bistro. You can catch up with the neighbors and the latest gossip while enjoying a delicious meal.

Sol Azteca: This quaint Mexican restaurant is owned by the same family that brought Jersey City the popular taco truck, Tacos Victoria. The food is fantastic at prices that can’t be beaten. They offer typical Mexican street fare like tacos, burritos and quesadillas including great veg-friendly options.

Back In Business

Some of Jersey City’s favorite restaurants had to close their doors in recent years. But exciting news: two are back after taking time to renovate and change their menus. Come back and see what’s new.

Battello: This modern Italian restaurant reopened after taking 18 months off for renovations. Now back with many new menu items, you can overlook the greatest skyline around while enjoying grilled octopus and mushroom agnolotti.

Diesel and Duke: The best burgers and poutine in New Jersey just became available again. The popular burger joint took some time to rebrand and update its look but is back with their unique flavor combinations. Try their S.P.B.B. burger — sriracha, peanut butter and bacon. They offer Beyond patties if beef isn’t your thing, but there’s flavors for everyone.
