Holiday Events in Jersey City

Check out all of the 2019 holiday happenings in Jersey City.

Music, lights and delicious food. Spending time with the people we love. Who’s ready for the 2019 holiday season? Here’s an early look at Jersey City’s don’t-miss holiday events.

Before Your Thanksgiving Dinner

Most of us have Thanksgiving plans on our calendar whether we visit family or our favorite restaurant. Here’s some fun to whet your appetite for the big feast.

LSC After Dark: Friendsgiving: Stop by the Liberty Science Center on November 21 for their latest After Dark Parties. Compete in the Science Center’s version of Family Feud with your friends, a pie eating contest, or a special Friends trivia challenge celebrating the show’s 25 anniversary. On the other hand, if games aren’t your thing, learn how to pull a tablecloth without breaking dishes if games aren’t your thing.

Jersey City Wine Fest: Looking for the perfect wine to pair with your big dinner? Surprise your family with your amazing taste after spending the day at the 2019 Jersey City Wine Fest. Come down to Harborside on November 23 and sample hundreds of wines from around the world. After you’ve found the perfect wine, head over to Jersey Wine & Spirits and grab a bottle to bring to Thanksgiving Dinner. The wine fest starts at 6:00 PM. All you favorite Jersey City food trucks will be there, too.

Jersey City Turkey Day 5k and 1-mile Fun Run: Worried about eating too many calories on Thanksgiving? Start a new tradition by running in the 1st Annual Jersey City Turkey Day 5k. It’s a great way to warm up for the big day of eating ahead of you. The race starts at Exchange Plaza and follows the beautiful Jersey City waterfront. Register today and get a free t-shirt. All proceeds benefit local charities.

Holiday Concerts and Theater

Holiday music and the performing arts are essential to your holiday plans. Get tickets for these festive outings before it’s too late.

A Christmas Carol: This year Art House Productions is putting on their version of everyone’s favorite Christmas story. This modern take uses various film versions of Dickens’ classic to create a fresh theater experience. Runs from December 11 to December 22.

Jersey City Nutcracker: Nimbus continues their unique holiday tradition starting December 13. The Jersey City Nutcracker takes the classic story you know and updates it, Jersey City style. Make this the year you see this urban holiday adventure story for the first time. Holiday revelers of all ages will love this adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s classic.

The Ukuladies In Wintertime: Come to the SMUSH Gallery on December 14 if you’re looking for an unforgettable holiday experience. The Ukuladies will bring their zany take on the holiday season to Jersey City. Don’t miss this chance to laugh and sing sleighing songs all night.

2019 Holiday Events in Jersey City

There’s a reason certain events become annual—they hold a special place in the heart of Jersey City residents. Don’t miss these opportunities to celebrate the arrival of the holidays.

The Happy Holiday Market: The Artist and Maker Market has once again joined up with the Farmer’s Market to turn Grove St. PATH Plaza into a winter wonderland. Visit the market on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 8pm starting November 18 for holiday gifts made by local artists. The market runs through December 23 with a few Saturdays and Sundays thrown in.

Liberty Harbor Holiday Events: Liberty Harbor residents have the opportunity to attend our special holiday parties. On December 2 come to the 4th Annual Lighting Ceremony. These festivities open to the public include a petting zoo, pony rides and a visit from Santa. December 10th is our 5th Annual Holiday Party for Liberty Harbor residents. Eat, drink and be merry with your neighbors.

Visit with Santa 2019: The 14th Street Garden Center will have Christmas trees beginning the week of November 18. Santa will appear to make the tree buying experience that much more special on December 8. Come down to get your tree and a picture of the big guy with the kids.

7th Annual Jersey City Mayor’s Holiday Concert: Once again, The Landmark Loew’s Theatre hosts the annual Mayor’s holiday concert on December 14. This year The Jersey Joint will play all your favorite classic holiday songs. The concert is free but make sure to reserve your tickets before it’s sold out.

Kick off this year’s holiday season with style. With so many options for merrymaking, there’s something for everyone. So bundle up and bring your friends and family out for some holiday cheer.

Give Back This Season – Donate to the York Street Project

York Street Project

This year, make the needs (not wants!) of families come true. Donate essentials that we often take for granted, but have a huge impact on families who need them.  Things like socks, baby medicine, basic toiletries and cleaning supplies, just to name a few.

We are joining the York Street Project (YSP) this year for our 2019 charity drive. YSP is a Jersey City organization that helps women and children break the cycle of poverty. Their holistic care provides food, housing, education, childcare, work placement and more. We urge you to visit their website: http://yorkstreetproject.org/

HOW TO GIVE:
1. Purchase new items via Amazon Smile: http://bit.ly/LHGIVESBACK2019
2. Not sure what to give? Donate a Virtual Basket via a $15, $25 or $50 donation:  http://bit.ly/LHWISHLISTS2019
