Dog-friendly Jersey City

jersey city for dog lovers

Just walk down the street in Jersey City and you’ll always see tons of dogs. Jersey City is filled with dog owners and this year, Liberty Harbor is celebrating our 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Festival on Saturday, June 29. If you’re a dog lover, then you won’t want to miss out on dog-centric vendors, carnival games and giveaways. But until then, there are plenty of other dog-friendly activities in Jersey City.

Dog-Friendly Activities in Jersey City

The Jersey City community loves their furry friends. This is why the city has so many with dog-friendly activities and places to go. Not to mention that your pup will be happiest when they get to spend their day with you.

Active Routes

If you own a dog, you know how often they need to go on walks—and how much they love them. But sometimes you want to take your dog on an adventure other than around the block. Exercise is one great way to spend time with your dog in Jersey City. Here are some places we recommend:

  • Stretch and play at the dog park Lincoln Dog Park Run welcomes all sized dogs to their park but is recommended for larger dogs due to the majority of the four-legged population. Hamilton Park Dog Runs is another local park that has separate areas for the big dogs and smaller pooches.
  • Hike some trailsPalisades Interstate Park is only a 20-minute drive from Jersey City and has breathtaking panoramic views of the Hudson River. If you’re looking to stay local, Leonard Gordon Park has large historic sculptures and a nice gazebo for relaxing.
  • Get your tan on – New Jersey has plenty of dog-friendly beaches where you and your pup can soak up the sun, play a game of catch and even go for a swim in the ocean.

Grab a Bite to Eat with Your Furry Friend

Jersey City has several dining options where pups are allowed on the premises. And every dog deserves to dine with their human every once in a while. Bone Appetit! Here are some of our favorite dog-friendly eateries:

  • Sam A.M. – Start your morning off with fresh, seasonal and local ingredients at Sam A.M. This small cafe offers one dog-friendly table outside where you can enjoy your food with Fido. Sam A.M. is only open until 3:30 p.m. so make sure you and your pup arrive before then.
  • 9th & Coles Tavern – Enjoy this cozy and friendly atmosphere while you munch on comfort food and craft beer with your furry friend at the outdoor tables. This pub also hosts trivia and karaoke during weeknights.
  • Amelia’s Bistro – Indulge in the rustic flavors of home-style cuisine while soaking in the vibrant and trendy environment with your pup in the outdoor seating area.

Give Em’ Some Love

There are plenty of dog parks and dog-friendly restaurants around Jersey City. But what if you want to give your beloved pet a little extra surprise? Here are some great ways to pamper your pet.

  • Send them on vacationJersey City Unleashed is a one-of-a-kind pet resort that offers several services for your pet including day camp activities, an overnight hotel, spa and grooming services and even a swimming pool. If you want to join in on the action, you can even watch your pup from a live pet cam.
  • Treat them to a fresh cut – If you want your pup to feel like a million bucks (because who doesn’t after a new-doo?!) bring them to a professional groomer. Downtown Woody’s Grooming Salon is one of Jersey City’s most highly rated salons. Or, if you prefer for the groomer to come to you, Waggy Butts Pet Grooming has wonderful reviews and arrives at your home in a mobile grooming van.
  • Spoil them with new toys – Finally, a dog can never have too many toys. Reward your dog by taking them to Hound About Town where they can choose from a large selection of the best toys around.
