Jersey City Rentals and Jersey City Medical Center: What’s the Connection?
The premier hospital in Jersey City began as the “Charity Hospital” in 1882 and then renamed and expanded in 1885 as the “Jersey City Hospital.” In the 1930’s it had already established itself as one of the leading hospitals in the area. (This was also true for the field of maternity, as in 1936 more babies were born in the Jersey City Hospital any other hospital in the nation [5,088] – with an exemplary birth mortality rate). In that same year, there was a formal dedication to commemorate the expansion of the hospital to a medical center, the first in New Jersey as well as one of the first in the Nation. To celebrate the accomplishment, Franklin D. Roosevelt himself was present to head the proceedings. The facility had developed such a phenomenal reputation through the years for being expert in so many medical specialties, that people in Northern New Jersey still refer to it as “The Medical Center” today. Furthermore, to solidify its place as a thought leader in the region, in the 1990’s it was designated as a regional trauma center and approved as a core teaching affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine as well as the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In 2004, “the Medical Center” moved to Grand Street and Jersey Avenue. It is now conveniently located near the light rail, ferries to New York City, PATH trains and the Liberty Science Center. In addition, it is the only hospital in Hudson County capable of performing open heart surgery.
