The Jersey City Rental Land Lord Renter Relationship

When deciding on a Jersey City rental, it is important that the renter and the land lord have a solid business relationship. This is why it is important that prior to the perspective renter signing a lease all questions are answered and both parties are comfortable with the final business arrangement.

Conditions of a Jersey City Rental

It is important that prior to signing the lease for the Jersey City rental, the perspective renter feel comfortable with the process. There are a number of steps the renter can take to make sure everything is in order prior to signing a lease.

For example, the renter should make sure to ask about how any needed repairs to the Jersey City rental will be paid for and how quickly repairs will be resolved. If the renter takes care of a repair, can the renter deduct the cost of the repair from the monthly rent with a copy of the receipt?

It is also important to ask what appliances will be provided. More often than not, a land lord will provide a refrigerator and a stove. Beyond that, it is generally up to the land lord. Some will provide additional appliances, but the determination of appliances is an important part of the Jersey City rental decision-making process.

Two important questions are related to the lease and potential rent increases. Prior to signing a lease for a Jersey City rental, it is important to understand how lease renewals will work after the first year. Some land lords just have a formal lease for the first year while others will want a new lease signed each year. It is also important to ask about how rent increases will be handled. Again, some land lords will have strict increases each year while others will take into consideration how difficult or easy the renter has been to deal with over the previous year. Has the renter paid their rent on time or early? Has the renter caused damage to the Jersey City rental? Often, these issues will be taken into consideration when it is time for a potential rent increase. It is also worthwhile for the potential renter to ask if there will be a increase discount of the perspective renter signs a multi-year lease.
